Story
Analysis
'Gamanam' falls in the same category but unfortunately the performance is incomplete. Each of the stories is built on a simple note in the first half. While their premise is good, the emotional turmoil each of the characters face is not strong enough.
There is something completely lacking in the narrative as the three stories lack the necessary depth. New director Sujuna Rao is helming the film. and his story is far from compelling. Since this was his first film, he didn't know how to up the drama and relate it to the main characters.
Shriya Sara's story of a helpless deaf woman stuck in a flood makes some sense in the film. Each of the stories have their own issues, but when it comes to their closure, the director misses the mark. Shiva Kandukuri tries hard to show her emotions but she doesn't fit her role.
Insert a pause, the film goes into a different zone and the issues in the stories are put aside. The only motto in these stories is to escape the deadly floods. In all this, director Sujuna Rao adds a lot of thrills to no effect. In Shriya Sara's story, a snake appears, young children try to sell mud idols in heavy rain, and Shiva Kandukuri leaves his house for a simple reason, such scenes have no underlying logic.
Somehow, every story starts well but their Gamanam gets directionless at the end. In the end, justification seems mandatory. There aren't many scenes that connect you to the story because the pain on display lacks depth. However, the camera work and production design are good. Maestro Ilayaraja's past score is another asset.
Actors like Charu Haasan and Priyanka Jawalkar do their best to bring some solace to the proceedings with their sincere performances, but the boring narrations act as a spoilsport. Another major drawback of the film is the slow pace which makes you yawn at various points. A star like Nithya Menen is wasted in a simple song and it is hardly understandable why she is there in the film.
Last Shot
The story of "Gamanam" does not move much, the film does not move us. Even the legendary Ilayaraja's music can't save the film as dull scenes, lackluster situations and ineffective drama make this film one big yawn fest.
