Drushyam 2 Movie Review, Telugu Movie Review, Venkatesh

A cinema hall equipped with all modern facilities is functioning at Rambabu (Venkatesh) in Rajavaram. He and his family have moved on from that fateful night six years ago. Still, they are constantly haunted by the fear of the police reopening the case. Rambabu's wife (Meena) dreams of marrying his elder daughter Anju, while Rambabu is always drinking with writer Vinay Chandra (Tanikella) to fulfill his dream of making films. Meanwhile, SP (Sampath), who vows to gather evidence to prove Rambabu's family guilty of Varu's (Nadia's son) murder, finally gets a breakthrough. Will Rambabu be able to protect his family this time? What is he up to?

  Analysis

  Set in Rajavaram, Drushyam 2, the Malayalam remake of the same name and directed by Jeethu Joseph, picks up where the first part (2014 Drushyam) left off. We saw Rambabu (Venkatesh) burying the body in the under-construction police station. The sequel begins with a witness watching Rambabu leave the crime scene with a shovel.

  Cut to Rambabu's house, suffering from addiction from his film's script session. Rambabu is on the verge of realizing his dream of making a film. At the very beginning, the drama is set - the witness may now be a problem for Rambabu, and his film production has something to do with the mystery.

  Writer-director Jeethu Joseph has written a clever script for the sequel, well integrating the past events with the present story. The first part focused on Rambabu and his clever tactics with an emotional element. The second part lacks emotional proportion. But Jeethu has many tricks up his sleeve to pull off the script. He brings all the loose ends to the last part quietly and leaves us satisfied. He recreated the same in Telugu version. It almost followed the Malayalam version that was shot.

  So, if you are a first time watcher and haven't seen the Malayalam version, this movie will keep you hooked till the end. But if you have already watched Jeethu's Malayalam version, the excitement is lost.

  Also, there is no thrill factor in Rambabu's tricks as we are sure that he will come up with something incredible in the end as we have witnessed his brilliant tricks in the first part. In a way, 'Drushyam 2', though it has some exciting sequences, is not as riveting as the first part.

  Coming to the performances, Venkatesh, Meena and Nadiya have done their parts well. Venkatesh is no match for Mohanlal but still carries the film on his shoulders.

  Among the technicians, dialogue writer Ramesh Samala stands out. His dialogues suit the theme and the story. Cinematography is adequate.

  Summary: 'Drushyam 2' is a thriller with a solid script and engaging sequels. But it is not as catchy as the Malayalam version. Since the movie premiered on Amazon Prime Video, it makes for a decent home viewing experience.
